Speaking of Didier Drogba, the Ivorian won’t have to worry about life after football because his manager Jose Mourinho says he will have a job at Stamford Bridge when he retires from playing.

“The important thing is he is here and will finish his career with Chelsea,” said Mourinho.

“It looks, for me, that he’s going to stay doing other things when he finishes his career.”

With their leading scorer Diego Costa suspended, Didier Drogba rolled back the years as he scored and created in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Tottenham.

José Mourinho’s Chelsea more deadly than ever — Didier Drogba

Didier Drogba claimed that the current Chelsea side are the most dangerous attacking team he has been a part of. The Ivory Coast striker believes the new team assembled by José Mourinho compares favourably with the sides that won Premier League and Champions League titles over the past decade. Drogba accepted that Chelsea must win trophies this season in order to reach the level of their predecessors, but feels they have the potential to surpass them because of their greater creative qualities, which they demonstrated in last night’s 5-0 thrashing of Schalke.

At 35, Drogba has yet to lose his shine, scoring three goals as the Elephants reached a third successive World Cup appearance. The striker has bounced back from a disappointing spell in China and has been banging the goals in Turkey. He scored five in 13 appearances during Galatasaray’s triumph in the 2012-13 season. In the current season, Drogba has scored nine times in all competitions for Galatasaray including the UEFA Champions League.

Name: John Obi Mikel

Mikel is enjoying probably his best moment in football. A regular with the star-studded Chelsea, he played an influential role in the buildup to the 2013 UEFA Europa League crown. In September 21 this year, he broke his goal duck in the English Premier League with his first goal in 185 matches in a 2-0 win over Fulham. Also, he netted a cracker against Uruguay at the FIFA Confederation Cup in Brazil in July besides claiming a gold medal with the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations. He was also instrumental for Nigeria in the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Winner of the last two editions of the African Player of the Year, Toure is still at his peak. Though the Elephants failed to go past the quarters, he has served the pillar of the Ivorian team in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, netting four goals in the process. At Manchester City, he is a cult figure and has been the driving force for the club. For the current 2013-14 season, the midfielder has found the back of the net five times in 11 games.

I still think of chelsea: D. Drogba

Didier Drogba

I may be associated with Chelsea’s past but no one is more excited about the club’s future now they have made radical changes to their style of play.

Chelsea’s profile received a boost after Drogba helped them win the Champions League and ensured they were able to sign players like Eden Hazard and Oscar in the close season.

The duo have been key, along with Juan Mata, to changing Chelsea’s image from a team that won games through power and efficiency to one that thrills with technique and trickery. Drogba has watched them from afar having moved to Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua, however he has given them his seal of approval, admitting the new tactics are a source of great pride and entertainment.

He said: “They have started the season well, winning games and playing very good football.

“There’s been a lot of new players and the older boys can help them adapt. It has been good and I am so pleased to see that.

“I really like Hazard. He is clever and doing a lot for the team. I’ve known him for a while now and the way he has adapted here is good.”

While Drogba, who this week was voted Chelsea’s greatest-ever player by the club’s supporters, is enjoying his fresh challenge in China, he finds it hard to get Chelsea out of his mind.

“Chelsea is my home and as long as I am far from there, of course I will be thinking about the team,” he added.

“I have good memories of what we achieved during my eight years with the club and I will never forget that.

“Of course, when you have good moments with a club like I did, you always remember them.”
